Abigail Tierney, 1998

The Kennedy Scholarship gave me the opportunity to study the archives of American scientists which were critical to my thesis.

I am currently Chief Executive of Suffolk Community Health Care and have most recently worked as Director of Development for Healthcare, and also Director of Strategy and Innovation at University Hospitals Leicester.

I have a BA in the History and Philosophy of Science from Leeds, an MSc in Social and Economic History from Oxford and a DPhil on scientific innovation, also from Oxford.

In 1998, I was awarded a Kennedy Scholarship to study for a year at MIT in the Science, Technology and Society Programme. In my second semester I joined Harvard's GSAS where I took courses in science, technology and public policy.

The Kennedy Scholarship gave me the opportunity to study the archives of American scientists which were critical to my thesis. It also opened my eyes to the role of innovation in business and public policy.
